CTV Melbourne Community Television

The Melbourne Community Television Consortium Inc. (MCTC) was established in 1991 by five 'test' community TV stations. In February 1993, the Federal Government declared the sixth channel (UHF 31), available for trial by non-profit community groups. In March 1993, MCTC was granted a trial license to transmit on UHF 31. The five test stations broadcast to small areas of Melbourne on low powered trasmitters. The station commenced full-time transmission in October 1994. Since then it has expanded to 24 hour broadcasting, and many more groups have joined the consortium. Today the station is broadcast from Mt. Dandenong to all of Melbourne.
